He is said to have a very strong deep voice. As we went more into the book, we were introduced Mustapha Mond. He tells students about when there were mothers, fathers, and homes. He also talks about monogamy and how he considers it bad. He talk about Christianity and democracy. He gave a history about The Nine Years' War and explains how it basically messed up the world. Because he such power, it keeps him safe from his things people shouldn't know. He says that he only uses his power for other people and not himself and he wants to keep the society stable. In the first quote it explains how you cannot undo what science has already discovered and done. In the next quote, he explains what soma does and what it is. He says that it helps calm you down and that you could carry at least half of your mortality in a bottle. The next quote says how the science that they have you cannot question it and its just there and it is referring to chefs. Mustapha Mond knows many things that others don't know and things they shouldn't know.

In the past you could only accomplish these things by making a great effort and after years of hard moral training. Now, you swallow two or three half-gramme tablets, and there you are. Anybody can be virtuous now. You can carry at least half your morality about in a bottle. Christianity without tears-that's what soma is." World Controller Mustapha Mond, Chapter 17, pg. 238

In the book Brave New World, Bernard Marx played a very important role. His character created the whole plot of the novel. In the beginning of the book, he was mostly likely the main character. The author focused a lot on what was happening to him and what people thought about the way he acted. He was the character that stood out the book because he didn't want to do what the others did. Everyone thought he was weird and not normal. A rumor would go around saying that when he was still in a bottle, they thought he was a Gamma and put alcohol into his blood surrogate. It was not only the way he acted that made him different, he also had "physical inadequacies." In the novel the people were put into cast. The cast is chosen for each person is picked at birth, when they are still embryos in a bottle. A problem that happened with Bernard is when Director Thomas threatened him to change his act or else he would ask for a transference to Iceland. This changed Bernard because he started to act more shyer than before. Another big event that changed Bernard's characteristics was when he visited the Savage Reservations. He started to be more excited, joyful and revengeful. After he found John and Linda all he could think about was what would be the directors face when he found out he was a father. In my opinion I believe was the most important character before he events in the novel made a big change to him. “Fanny was shocked. “They say somebody made a mistake when he was still in the bottle—thought he was a Gamma and put alcohol into his blood-surrogate. That’s why he’s so stunted.”

Chapter 3 page 106

“He stood eight centimetres short of the standard Alpha height and was slender in proportion. Contact with members of the lower castes always reminded him painfully of this physical inadequacy. “I am I, and wish I wasn’t”; his self-consciousness was acute and distressing. Each time he found himself looking on the level, instead of downward, into a Delta’s face, he felt humiliated.”

“Pierced by every word that was spoken, the tight balloon of Bernard’s happy self-confidence was leaking from a thousand wounds.”

“In a few minutes,” she had said to herself, as she entered the room, “I shall be “seeing him, talking to him, telling him” (for she had come with her mind made up) “that I like him—more than anybody I’ve ever known. And then perhaps he’ll say . . .” What would he say? The blood had rushed to her cheeks. “Why was he so strange the other night, after the feelies? So queer. And yet I’m absolutely sure he really does rather like me. I’m sure . . .”

John was a very important person in the book he showed them its okay to be different. He grew up knowing about to different worlds , he is also a very strong person he grew up being rejected by all the Indians and even his father , when the director and linda had sex they conceived john in the world state your not a loud to have babies everything is through machines so when the director found out linda was pregnant he took her to a different place to stay there so he wouldn't be ashamed .He also showed them how to stand up for what you believe in for example john grew up differently then everyone else did in the world states . He believed in marriage while everyone believed in just having sex , he stuck with his believing when lenina was putting her body on him he slapped her and called her a whore , since he didn't believe it was right to have a fertilizing room he started to smash everything and destroy it all at the end he got tired of the society and he decided to hang himself .

The director quote

chapter 10

The greater a man's talents, the greater his power to lead astray. It is better that one should suffer than that many should be corrupted. Consider the matter dispassionately, Mr. Foster, and you will see that no offence is so heinous as unorthodoxy of behavior. Murder kills only the individual-and, after all, what is an individual?

He meant to say what is life ? This describes as the director as being very wise .

John The savage

Chapter 8 page 128

Lying in bed, he would think of Heaven and London and Our Lady of Acoma and the rows and rows of babies in clean bottles and Jesus flying up and Linda flying up and the great Director of World Hatcheries and Awonawilona

He thinks of the world they live in and how its wrong how the babys are being made this quote shows how he is different then the others.

Chapter 8 page 135

"O brave new world," he repeated. "O brave new world that has such people in it. Let's start at once."

This quote describes him as determined and strong that he is willing to do anything to survive and fight for what he believes in .

chapter 15

Free, free!" the Savage shouted, and with one hand continued to throw the soma into the area while, with the other, he punched the indistinguishable faces of his assailants. "Free!" And suddenly there was Helmholtz at his side–"Good old Helmholtz!"—also punching—"Men at last!"—and in the interval also throwing the poison out by handfuls through the open window. "Yes, men! men!" and there was no more poison left. He picked up the cash-box and showed them its black emptiness. "You're free!"

Howling, the Deltas charged with a redoubled fury.

This shows how he is being free and standing up for what he belives he is destroying something he thinks is wrong event though he know he could get killed for this .

Chapter 17 page 140

"In fact', said Mustapha Mond, 'you're claiming the right to be unhappy.'

'All right then,' said the Savage defiantly, 'I'm claiming the right to be unhappy.'

He is saying that he is no afraid to be miserable in order to gain what he believes is truly right this shows him as determined .

Chapter 18 230

"Savage!" called the first arrivals, as they alighted from their machine. "Mr. Savage!"

There was no answer.

The door of the lighthouse was ajar. They pushed it open and walked into a shuttered twilight. Through an archway on the further side of the room they could see the bottom of the staircase that led up to the higher floors. Just under the crown of the arch dangled a pair of feet.
